As an introspective, philosophical man, Dwight Duke's studies in biology and pre-med in California led him to pursue fine art with an emphasis on sculpture when he continued his education in Oregon.

Duke then became obsessively fascinated with bronze. "I like to explore the tactile qualities of metal, the way light and surface interact. Through the application and removal of multiple layers, I can achieve these interactions of light and surface, as well as reveal to the viewer the process and struggle through which the work evolved."

The artist has always been intrigued by the make up of Earth's creatures, both psychologically and physically. From the relics of whales, walrus, fish and other life forms of the Pacific Northwest, Duke gives birth to hauntingly hopeful images in three-dimensional bronze sculpture. As he puts it, "My works are an ongoing expression of my passion and visions of life. I form material to reflect the sum of my influences, experiences and perceptions. Art springs from emotion and I can only hope that my work stirs some emotion within you."

Dwight Duke currently lives and works on Orcas Island, Washington, with his labrador retriever, Zephyr.
